Wine.

The Dordogne is at the heart of some of the finest vineyards in the world - Bordeaux, St Emilion, Monbazillac, Bergerac, Duras and many others are all close to the house.

Many local vineyards and chateaux offer private wine tastings, one of our favourite is Chateau Pierrail, Margueron - booking essential. St Emilion is a great day out, plenty of chateaux to see as well as spending the day in the beautiful hilltop town.

Walking.

There are plenty of countryside walks from the house, including a walk across fields to the small ancient church of St Nazaire.

Market towns.

Most morning throughout the year, there will be a market town where local producers and farmers come together to sell their products. Eymet, an attractive bastide town on the edge of the Dropt river; Miramont-de-Guyenne, another traditional bastide town was founded by the English King Edward I at the end of the 13th century and Duras a pleasant town, if rather quiet, has one main sight that attracts visitors: the Chateau de Duras; and Ste Foy la Grande, the largest town close by is situated on the Dordogne and probably the most lively in the area.

During the summer months many of the local towns have night markets offering food (ready to eat) and live music for entertainment.

Golf.

There are plenty of golf courses in the area. Our favourite is situated at Château des Vigiers, Monestier. A delightful brasserie is adjacent to the putting green for drinks, lunch or dinner (booking essential for evening meals).
